ArmInfo. Severing ties with Russia will have grave consequences for Armenian citizens. The West views Armenia solely as a tool in the fight against Russia and is interested in clearing the political field of all forces advocating for healthy relations between the two countries. This was stated by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and Chairman of the United Russia party, as reported by expert.ru. His words were quoted by the United Russia press service.
Eliminating such a dictate from Armenia will be extremely difficult, Dmitry Medvedev believes. "By viewing the republic solely as a tool in the fight against Russia, the West is most interested in clearing the political field of all forces advocating for healthy relations between Moscow and Yerevan," the politician stated.
He also noted that severing decades-old ties with Russia will inevitably have grave consequences for ordinary Armenian citizens. "The EU countries are absolutely unconcerned about the inevitable dire consequences for ordinary citizens from the severing of ties forged over decades," said Dmitry Medvedev, adding that the political ambitions of the current Armenian authorities have proven to be superior to the national interests of the country they lead.
The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council expressed hope that the ruling Civil Contract party will heed the alternative opinion expressed by the majority of voters, especially since the party's representatives themselves emphasize the importance of maintaining relations with Russia. "Our country will judge the true intentions of the Armenian authorities by their actual actions," he concluded.
