ArmInfo. Vardan Ghukasyan, the mayor of Gyumri, who is currently under arrest, will face another charge of obstructing an official from performing his official duties.
According to the press service of the Investigative Committee, as a result of a comprehensive preliminary investigation, factual evidence was obtained indicating that during a court hearing, the accused V.G. obstructed a public official from performing his official duties. Specifically, on May 27, 2026, V.G., a defendant in a criminal case being heard in the Anti-Corruption Criminal Court, attempted to answer journalists' questions immediately after the court hearing, ignoring the lawful demand of police officers to transfer him to the penitentiary facility for detainees. Moreover, when a police officer attempted to escort V.G., he used violence and physical force against him, thereby obstructing the official in the performance of their duties.
On June 25, 2026, at the investigator's request, the supervising prosecutor opened a public criminal case against V.G. under Part 3 of Article 452 of the Criminal Code (interference with the lawful official activities of an official). The preliminary investigation of the criminal case is ongoing.
