ArmInfo. The Constitutional Court of Armenia will begin hearing the application of the opposition forces demanding the invalidation of the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections at 11:00 AM on June 26.
Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan, Judges Seda Safaryan and Artak Zeynalyan (the latter has been removed from hearing the opposition's claims - ed.), and opposition representatives themselves have already appeared in court since early morning.
In an interview with journalists, lawyer Aram Vardevanyan, a member of the "Strong Armenia" bloc, noted that the trial will uncover facts regarding certain circumstances that will be discussed in detail during the hearing. Specifically, the CEC's justification for refusing to recount votes at three polling stations where the results were annulled will be discussed, as well as the extract they received regarding the review of Judge Seda Safaryan's inability to participate in the case, and more.
"All of this and much more will be discussed during the hearing. And let's make a few points clear. First, the Constitutional Court has very serious shortcomings in terms of neutrality, independence, and impartiality-that's an undeniable fact. Second, the Civil Contract party did not win these elections. If they believe they can claim victory after the votes were scattered, well, let that be their opinion. The Constitutional Court has one mission in this regard: to respond to and document the widespread violations that occurred before our eyes during the electoral processes," Vardevanyan noted.
The lawyer also reported that they have a complaint against two other judges who will hear the case, which they will present during the hearing.
As a reminder, on June 19, seven political forces filed petitions with the Constitutional Court of Armenia demanding that the results of the parliamentary elections held on June 7 be declared invalid. On June 21, the Constitutional Court decided to consolidate all cases into a single proceeding. Following today's hearing, the court will have 15 days to rule on the case.
It should be noted that an opposition rally will be held outside the Constitutional Court building at 5:00 PM in connection with the hearing.
