ArmInfo. As a result of a secret ballot in the leadership of Armenia’s ruling party, Civil Contract, the party’s candidate for Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia was chosen as the current Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Ruben Rubinyan.
Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan told reporters this on June 25 after the intra-party vote. “As a result of the secret ballot, Ruben Rubinyan has been selected as the candidate for the post of Speaker of the National Assembly,” the prime minister said, declining to provide any details.
It should be recalled that, according to information circulated in the press, those who put forward their candidacies for the position of Speaker of the National Assembly were Speaker Alen Simonyan, Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan, and Civil Contract faction leader Ayk Kondjoryan. After today’s vote, it can be safely assumed that Alen Simonyan will become president of the Republic of Armenia, and the current head of state, Vaagn Khachaturyan, will become the prime minister’s chief adviser.
