ArmInfo. Avetik Chalabyan, coordinator of the "Hayakve" movement and public and political figure, has been charged with allegedly "preparing to obstruct electoral rights." Lawyer Varazdat Harutyunyan announced this on his Facebook page.
According to him, Chalabyan denied the charges and called them lies. "Chalabyan has been charged with allegedly 'preparing to obstruct electoral rights by a group of individuals by prior conspiracy, using official powers.' He denied the charge, calling it a lie 'from beginning to end.' We cannot address the 'factual circumstances' of the case due to the secrecy of the preliminary investigation, but in the future we will have occasion to discuss its ridiculous and fictitious nature," the lawyer wrote.
According to Harutyunyan, Chalabyan is currently in the Kentron and Nork-Marash District Court of General Jurisdiction in Yerevan, where a motion for his arrest will be considered.
The press service of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Armenia, meanwhile, provided details of the case. According to the agency, Chalabyan is accused of "being the coordinator of Hayakveh, in order to obstruct the electoral rights of Armenian citizens participating in the June 7 parliamentary elections, he left the Republic in May 2026 and held meetings with officials from another country." "During these meetings, he lobbied the owners of businesses operating in that country to persuade their employees, who were Armenian citizens, to come to the country and vote for the Strong Armenia bloc, an agreement on which was reached," the Investigative Committee stated.
As a reminder, Chalabyan was detained on the morning of June 24.
Notably, before the parliamentary elections, the association of which Chalabyan is the coordinator joined the Strong Armenia bloc.
