ArmInfo. Armenia's leadership stands at a crossroads today and is discussing the upcoming choice of development path for its country. This is important for Russia because our peoples are closely intertwined, and our countries are united by a very successful integration process – the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated this on the sidelines of the 12th International Scientific and Expert Forum "Primakov Readings."
"We are convinced that, in all its qualitative characteristics, our integration process significantly surpasses other alternatives,"
Peskov said, emphasizing that the EAEU provides Armenia with a significant boost to its GDP growth. He noted that Moscow hopes that the Armenian people and the country's current leadership will analyze the situation and reach a similar point of view. "We are interested in this," Peskov emphasized, according to Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
Meanwhile, as TASS reports, he also added that Russia and Armenia are fraternal countries, and the integration process uniting them contributes to Armenia's economic development: "For many centuries, Russia and Armenia have been neighbors, fraternal countries. We are closely intertwined in this regard, and many Armenians live in our country, and Russians live in Armenia. And we are united by a very good integration process. We are convinced that this integration process, namely the EAEU, annually contributes a significant percentage to Armenia's GDP growth."
According to Peskov, Russia hopes that Armenia will ultimately choose the EAEU, as this integration process is significantly more beneficial than its potential EU membership. "We are convinced that, in all its qualitative characteristics, our integration process significantly surpasses other alternatives." And we hope that, first and foremost, the Armenian people and also the current Armenian leadership, based on the analysis of the situation, will come to the same point of view,” he concluded.
