ArmInfo. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen plans to visit Armenia next week, three sources familiar with the Commissioner's plans told Politico. According to the publication, the EU delegation, which will also include Enlargement Commissioner Marta Koss, will visit Armenia to demonstrate support for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan following his pro- European party's landslide victory in the parliamentary elections on June 7. The visit will take place on July 1, but its itinerary has not yet been finalized.
It comes amid Pashinyan's efforts to consolidate Yerevan's shift away from Moscow and deepen ties with the European Union following the referendum on the country's geopolitical future. "We see that the country is under intense and ongoing pressure from Russia. This visit will be a strong signal of support, building on the concrete assistance already provided," said an EU official working on the trip, speaking on condition of anonymity.
