
ArmInfo. The Armenian delegation participated in the 11th session of the General Assembly of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Paris.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Armenia, Naira Kilichyan, Head of the Department for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport, noted in her speech that the Republic attaches particular importance to cooperation between the state and civil society in the field of safeguarding intangible cultural heritage, viewing it as one of the fundamental areas of an effective and viable cultural policy. At the same time, she emphasized that the Armenian Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, and Cultural Heritage, pursuing an open and transparent cultural policy, annually provides financial support to cultural non-governmental organizations through grant programs aimed at preserving, transmitting, and promoting intangible cultural heritage in communities. Armenia's Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Aram Hakobyan, also emphasized that the preservation of intangible cultural heritage is a priority for Armenia's cultural policy. He emphasized the importance of understanding the needs of communities and preserving their cultural heritage.
During the session, the Armenian NGO "Culture for Sustainable Development" was accredited as an NGO supporting the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in consultative status, in recognition of its professional expertise in this field. This is the second NGO in Armenia to receive such high international recognition. In 2020, the NGO "Azarashen Armenian Center for Ethnological Studies" was accredited.
