ArmInfo. The Investigative Committee of Armenia has completed its preliminary investigation into the criminal case initiated regarding the murder of a one-year-old child by his stepmother.
According to the Investigative Committee's press service, the investigation established and substantiated that R.E., believing that one-year-old A.M., who had been placed in her de facto care, was the cause of conflicts and tension in the family, intentionally used physical violence against the child while he was lying in bed between January and March 2026, on various days, including on March 10. Specifically, she struck the child with her hands on various parts of his body and head, causing him to lose consciousness. Furthermore, according to the investigation, on March 15, 2026, R.E., acting with the direct intent to take the child's life, struck the child in the head while he was lying in bed, causing life-threatening bodily injuries. The child died as a result of the injuries.
By decision of the prosecutor supervising the proceedings, a public criminal prosecution has been instituted against R.E. under Article 155, Part 2, Clause 3 (murder of a helpless person) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, as well as Article 196, Part 2, Clauses 3 and 6 (causing severe physical pain or severe mental suffering to a dependent minor). The stepmother has been arrested.
