ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities never made territorial claims against other countries from 1991 to 2018, according to former Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament and RPA Press Secretary Eduard Sharmazanov.
"The propaganda machine of the Civil Contract Party of Armenia is indirectly pushing yet another false thesis: that the former authorities or the main opposition forces are allegedly dissatisfied with the internationally recognized territory of the Republic of Armenia. This is a blatant lie. The Armenian authorities never made territorial claims against any country in the world from 1991 to 2018," Sharmazanov wrote on his Facebook page.
According to him, for the former authorities of the Republic of Armenia, the Artsakh settlement issue was not a territorial one, but a matter of realizing the right to self-determination. In this vein, the politician recalled that the right to self-determination is one of the goals of the UN, and this principle is enshrined in the UN Charter.
"The only leader of the Republic of Armenia to violate this political principle was Pashinyan, with his thesis, 'Artsakh is Armenia, period.' Not to mention the thesis about a new war and new territories. The dissemination of such statements is unacceptable. It remains to be said that everything the Azerbaijani authorities are doing in Artsakh is right! The history of states is continuous, and don't do something that even our future generations won't be able to escape," Sharmazanov concluded.
On June 17, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan once again lashed out at the country's opposition forces. Moreover, to justify his conciliatory policy in relations with Azerbaijan, Pashinyan hastened to shift all the blame onto the leaders of key opposition forces, assuring that they want war when they talk about Artsakh.
