ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities have detained Sasun Badoyan, the father of a fallen serviceman and a parliamentary candidate from the "Strong Armenia" bloc, on fabricated and unlawful charges, as reported by lawyer Tatevik Soghoyan on her Facebook page.
According to the lawyer, Badoyan's son, Karen Badoyan, died heroically during the 44-day war in 2020. "The 19-year-old sergeant, in the absence of his commander, assumed command of the position. He single- handedly destroying six enemy tanks and one KamAZ truck, halting the advance of numerous vehicles. He was posthumously awarded the order of Combat Cross, 1st Class. He and his fellow soldiers were directly attacked by a drone, as a result of which, unfortunately, his remains have still not been found. Therefore, Karen is still officially considered missing in action, and his father, Sasun, has been working with us to determine the fate of all missing servicemen," Soghoyan noted.
However, the lawyer pointed out that Badoyan is not among the parents whom the country's authorities revere, as he is a member of the opposition. In this regard, she recounted that in 2021, during Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's visit to the village of Noradus, Karen Badoyan's name was omitted from the list of martyrs.
"At the time, they blamed it on the fact that he was 'missing in action.' Today, his father, an opposition parliamentary candidate, is being detained on fabricated and unlawful charges. I will not delve into the facts of the case, because there is neither a case nor facts. I will simply state once again: we have hit rock bottom morally, where people who were buying 'mouse holes for a thousand tomans' during the war are now detaining those who fought like 'lions.' Some judges have even concluded that a man who lost his son might experience 'greater fear' and flee the country," Soghoyan concluded.
