


ArmInfo. The Investigative Committee (IC) of Armenia has announced the detainment of political scientist Alen Ghevondyan, who faces charges of "calling for the seizure of power and the overthrow of the constitutional order via social media."
According to the press service of the Armenian Investigative Committee, the political scientist was detained as part of a criminal proceeding initiated against two individuals. "Following a report of an alleged crime received from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), political scientist Alen Ghevondyan and Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) board member Tigran Vardanyan have been detained," the agency reported.
The source added that public criminal prosecution has been initiated against them under Part 2 of Article 422 of the Criminal Code, which covers public calls to seize state power and violently overthrow the constitutional order using information or communication technologies.
"Arrest has been selected as a preventive measure against Vardanyan, and he has been placed on a wanted list. Ghevondyan is currently detained, and a motion for the selection of a preventive measure will be submitted to the court. The preliminary investigation into the criminal cases is ongoing," the Investigative Committee concluded.
