ArmInfo. Only an idiot would think I could justify someone who betrayed my homeland. Third President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan told reporters today.
"People who manipulate my words either don't understand the context or are idiots, because only an idiot would think I could justify someone who deliberately brought the Republic of Armenia to capitulation, who betrayed my homeland, who attacked my church, and who left the territories of my country under enemy occupation," he said. Serzh Sargsyan emphasized that his position on this issue is crystal clear, and that opponents' attempts to exploit it for electoral manipulation are doomed to failure. He also noted that he would no longer respond to such speculation, as he had given a comprehensive answer to this question in the previous days.
A day earlier, Serzh Sargsyan said the opposition had few options left. "They either go to parliament or give up their mandates. There are few options, but both options have their downsides and advantages. But the problem isn't choosing a format, but having a clear strategy. Success can be achieved in both cases," Sargsyan asserted. He stated that following the recount, businessman Gagik Tsarukyan's Prosperous Armenia Party will enter parliament, "otherwise, things will be very strange." He also expressed his belief that street fighting is always useful, but everything will depend on the political forces that receive popular support. In response, Bright Armenia party leader Edmon Marukyan harshly criticized the third president of Armenia, accusing him of effectively assuming the role of "advocate" for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Such behavior, according to the politician, is "disgraceful" and a sign of playing into the hands of the current government. According to Marukyan, the former president publicly exonerated Pashinyan on a number of controversial issues, including the election, which caused public confusion.
