ArmInfo. The participation of Russian-Armenians in Armenia's electoral processes is the focus of the country's law enforcement system. RA Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan told reporters on June 12, responding to a question about how many Russian-Armenians participated in the nationwide vote.
The minister noted that both the National Security Service and the Foreign Intelligence Service are handling the matter. Sargsyan refrained from naming the exact number of such citizens, but noted that the entire process is the focus of law enforcement's attention. She added that such cases have indeed occurred, and that some have even been detained. Investigations are underway into all such cases. If it was discovered that voters' rights had been interfered with or obstructed, those individuals were immediately detained and then transferred to pretrial investigation agencies.
The minister declined to specify the number of detainees, stating only that the investigation was ongoing. "Our life does not end on election day, and we continue operational and intelligence activities. Investigative agencies continue their preliminary investigation, and I assure you that there will be arrests, and if necessary, very strict preventive measures," the minister said.
She added that current electoral legislation provides political forces with sufficient mechanisms to monitor the voting process. Specifically, candidates' and parties' representatives are present at polling stations, and the vote count is conducted under video surveillance and live streaming.
Speaking about election violations, Sargsyan noted that there were many such cases. "However, I haven't seen a single one that was supported by concrete facts. When we asked their authors to file an official report of the crime, they refused," the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted.
