ArmInfo. On June 12, the "Strong Armenia" bloc appealed to the Central Election Commission demanding that the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections be declared invalid.
In a conversation with journalists, party representative and lawyer Aram Vardevanyan noted that the bloc has extensive evidence of alleged violations. The lawyer noted that the government, which constantly claims to hold fair and transparent elections, has failed to do so in practice. As an example, Vardevanyan pointed to OSCE ODIHR assessments, which indicate a more than serious regression.
Vardevanyan reported that, in addition to the official statement, the party submitted information to the Central Election Commission (CEC) regarding all the large-scale violations committed both on election day and in the pre-election period. The politician emphasized that even before the elections, the bloc had repeatedly filed complaints with the CEC regarding the use of hate speech and administrative resources, which the commission either ignored or rejected. The party subsequently appealed to the Administrative Court, which has already issued a corresponding ruling. According to Vardevanyan, the CEC is obligated to order a recount, taking into account the identified circumstances and the scale of the possible violations. Specifically, this concerns approximately 100,000 votes, the results of which raise doubts for the political party. Specifically, the votes of these voters were not counted through proper passport verification using technical means, but manually, which constitutes a gross violation of voting procedures. Furthermore, approximately 16,000-17,000 votes cast by military personnel were misappropriated, and an abnormal number of ballots-17,000-were declared invalid. The approximately 5,000 voters whose applications to change polling stations were rejected also raise questions.
According to Vardevanyan, all these circumstances must be subject to careful study and legal assessment. He noted that the Central Election Commission is obligated to review the application next Sunday during the final tabulation of election results. He also stated that the ruling Civil Contract party effectively lost the election and did not receive a genuine vote of confidence from citizens.
Vardevanyan emphasized that all talk of democratic elections is simply ridiculous, and if the current post- election situation represents the legal culture that needs to be established in Armenia, then certain actions have already been taken against it. He recalled CEC Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan's appeal to law enforcement agencies, taking into account the presumption of innocence, not to use the names of parties and blocs whose representatives' telephone conversations were wiretapped and published, which, however, was ignored by the Anti-Corruption Committee.
