ArmInfo. Armenia's ruling Civil Contract party highly values the ongoing electoral process, as stated by Arayik Harutyunyan, Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, at a press conference on June 7.
At the same time, according to him, certain representatives of the opposition camp and the media are attempting to generate unnecessary hype around the voting process. "Their goals are clear, but it's also obvious that in most cases, reports of violations are not supported by facts. However, in situations that do correspond to reality, both we and the law enforcement agencies respond, Specifically, proceedings have been initiated regarding several violations of the period of electoral silence as well as incidents during the voting process itself," Harutyunyan noted.
He dismissed claims that law enforcement agencies had only targeted individuals giving and receiving election bribes immediately ahead of the vote. As a rule, the preparation for this process takes place before the elections, while the actual bribery occurs during the voting period. In total, approximately 200 detentions have been made.
The Prime Minister's Chief of Staff assured that, according to opinion poll data, the standing of the opposition forces in the elections is unenviable. It is for this exact reason, he claimed, that these forces will attempt to use disinformation to find justifications for their defeat.
In his turn, Vahagn Aleksanyan, a member of the National Assembly from the ruling faction, urged citizens who value their homeland above money to put aside all their affairs and vote, to prevent a situation where others sell their own homeland for 40,000 or 50,000 drams. He emphasized that the true owners of the country are these honest citizens, rather than those who cast their ballots in exchange for bribes.
