ArmInfo. The raid by law enforcement officers, which began around noon at the media outlet owned by Alexan Alexanyan—a member of the team of Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the "Strong Armenia" party, who was detained yesterday—concluded with the confiscation of "Armat-Media's" property and employees' phones, as well as the sealing of the media's doors. This means that two days before the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7, a media outlet associated with a party participating in the elections is being shut down.
The Union of Journalists of Armenia strongly condemns this horrific act of aggression against a media outlet. Effectively, in Armenia, the self-proclaimed "bastion of democracy," a media outlet is being closed down, and this, at the very least, fails to attract the attention of international organizations and diplomatic missions operating in Armenia.
If there is a legal process, it must proceed without striking a blow to the operations of the media outlet. No media outlet should suffer from the political calculations of the political authorities and their obsession with settling scores with competitors.
