ArmInfo. Large-scale arrests have been taking place in Armenia since early this morning, in response to RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement last night. This was stated by Bright Armenia Party leader Edmon Marukyan during a rally in front of the National Assembly on June 5.
He recalled a question posed to Pashinyan by representatives of pro-Western political forces about the need to withdraw two opposition political blocs from the race, to which the head of the Armenian government suggested they submit a written request to the Central Electoral Commission. The whole point is that, essentially, this is about using administrative resources to remove a particular political force from the electoral process. "Why do they need this? They see that a huge army of people is ready to go to the polls, and by removing political forces they don't like, they want to create a sense of depression among the people, forcing them to abandon the elections. We will monitor the situation, but no matter what happens, 1.7 million people must go to the polls. In that case, even with the use of various mechanisms, this government will be defeated," assured Edmon Marukyan, adding that Pashinyan is currently following the path of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
