The process of Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the "Strong Armenia" bloc, renouncing his Russian and Cypriot citizenship will be completed after the parliamentary elections in Armenia on June 7, 2026, by the time of his inauguration. Narek Karapetyan, a member of the "Strong Armenia" party council, announced this on Public Television. According to him, the citizenship renunciation is in progress.
"The process is still ongoing. Rest assured, it will be completed. We will achieve positive results on this issue in the near future. Rest assured, it will be completed by the time of his inauguration," Karapetyan concluded.
As a reminder, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, responding to the nomination of Samvel Karapetyan as the Strong Armenia bloc's candidate for prime minister in the June parliamentary elections, stated that, according to Armenian law and the Constitution, individuals holding citizenship of a second country, and in this case, a third, cannot be members of parliament or run for prime minister. In response, on April 15, during a hearing at the Armenian Anti-Corruption Court in Yerevan, Karapetyan announced that he had begun the process of renouncing his Russian and Cypriot citizenships.
It should be added that on June 2, the Armenian Anti-Corruption Court ruled to return the Armenian passport to Strong Armenia bloc leader Samvel Karapetyan, who is under house arrest, so that he can participate in the parliamentary elections on June 7.
