ArmInfo.Armenian political scientist and economist Grant Mikaelyan has presented a map of regional social infrastructure, which the Armenian authorities intend to close after the parliamentary elections on June 7, 2026.
As Mikaelyan explained on his Facebook page, after the elections, the Armenian authorities want to "optimize" all regional social infrastructure, centralizing everything in regional centers and Yerevan. "Let's not forget how they also 'optimized' Artsakh," the expert recalled. According to a map presented by a political scientist, 231 schools in Armenia, scheduled to close by government decision in 2026, are being merged into expanded schools, resulting in villages losing their only educational institution. "By government decision, 41 hospitals in Armenia's regions are also being closed, and 10 large medical centers will be opened in their place," Mikaelyan noted.
Meanwhile, according to the map, the Armenian side has already lost 219 schools, 21 hospitals, and 13 outpatient clinics as a result of Azerbaijani aggression and the occupation of Artsakh. "These are schools that Armenian children can no longer attend because they have been given over to the enemy," the political scientist wrote.
Therefore, according to him, a total of 525 educational and medical institutions in Armenia and Artsakh will be closed or have already been lost. To support his claims, the expert presented a government decision dated December 4, 2025: https://www.arlis.am/hy/acts/217599/print/act, as well as reports and lists confirming his statements above.
Recall that in February 2026, rumors began circulating that the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports (MESC) of Armenia intended to close 231 schools in Armenia.
However, the MESC later refuted this information, stating that "the information disseminated on various platforms and the discussions surrounding it about the alleged planned closure of 231 schools in the Republic of Armenia starting in September 2026 are untrue and constitute disinformation.
