ArmInfo."Despite all the challenges and issues, I declare that mutual trust with Iran has deepened," Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told reporters on May 28.
According to him, this outcome was made possible because Armenia acted in alignment with its previously stated approaches and agreements. At the same time, the Prime Minister noted that Armenia also maintains trusting relations with the United States.
"This is happening because we don't play games with our partners, but speak frankly and openly about our positions. We are grateful for their understanding of our unique characteristics, be that mental, psychological, and historical," he said.
Recall, yesterday, Armenia’s second president, Robert Kocharyan, noted during an interview with several media outlets in Meghri that it is necessary to expand the presence of other states trusted by Iran within the TRIPP project. Otherwise, he warned, Armenia risks facing serious issues in its relations with Tehran.
Emphasizing that the United States is effectively in a state of confrontation with Iran, Kocharyan pointed out that there are no guarantees Tehran will not close its border with Armenia following an American presence in the region.
To support his argument, Kocharyan highlighted that Armenia's share in Iran's foreign trade accounts for only about 0.2%–0.3%. Consequently, Iran would barely feel a potential closure of the Armenian-Iranian border, whereas this border holds strategic importance for Armenia—not only for bilateral trade but also as an outlet to the Indian Ocean and a route for developing trade with the UAE, the volume of which has grown significantly in recent years.
