ArmInfo. A solemn flower-laying ceremony was held in the center of Yerevan at the monument to Field Marshal Ivan Fyodorovich Paskevich, marking the birthday of one of the Russian Empire's most prominent military commanders—a figure who played a significant role in strengthening Russian-Armenian relations.
According to the press service of the Moscow House in Yerevan, the event was organized by the "Russia" NGO of the Republic of Armenia, supported by the Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office in Armenia. Representatives from the Russian Embassy in Armenia, the Military Attache Office, the Belarusian Embassy in Armenia, the House of Moscow in Yerevan, the Border Department of the Russian Federal Security Service in Armenia, public and youth organizations, and members of the "Young Friends of Border Guards" movement participated in the ceremony.
Opening the ceremony, Ekaterina Andreeva, Deputy Head of the Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office in Armenia, emphasized that Paskevich's activities were part of the historical processes that largely determined the fate of the Armenian people in the 19th century. "It is symbolic that today we are unveiling a memorial plaque as part of the Russian-Armenian Atlas of Military Cultural Heritage project, describing significant sites, one of which is the monument to Ivan Paskevich – a place that serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving shared historical memory," she said.
Inessa Kudruk, Charge d'Affaires of Belarus in Armenia, also touched on the unique personality and achievements of Ivan Paskevich, noting his significant contribution to the development of not only Russia and Armenia, but also Belarus. "After acquiring an estate in Gomel, which has now become the Gomel Palace and Park Ensemble—the cultural and historical pride of our country—Ivan Fedorovich founded a city library and also assembled a large collection of works of art and weapons, making a significant contribution to the development of our culture and history," the diplomat said.
