ArmInfo. Officers from the RA State Revenue Committee prevented an attempt to transit a large consignment of drugs through Armenia.
According to the SRC press service, the incident was detected at the Agarak checkpoint, where a truck from Iran arrived for customs inspection. The Iranian driver presented documents indicating he was transporting construction slabs, with Georgia listed as the final destination.
Armenia was used as a transit zone. At the checkpoint, the truck underwent an X-ray inspection, which revealed no contraband. A specially trained dog was then brought in, and during the inspection, it detected unidentified cargo in the rear of the truck's trailer. A decision was made to transfer the truck to the southern terminal for a detailed inspection. State Revenue Committee officers removed metal parts from the trailer, where they discovered specially made compartments containing 28 kg of hashish, packaged in 110 containers.
An Iranian citizen was detained on suspicion of committing the crime and transferred to the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia. Criminal proceedings have been initiated to identify all persons involved in the crime and the entire drug supply chain.
