ArmInfo.Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has stated that he sees no threat from the Russian 102nd Military Base in the context of a new Russian law authorizing the use of the country's Armed Forces to protect Russian citizens arrested abroad.
Addressing journalists' questions regarding whether the new legislation causes concern given the presence of the base in Gyumri, Pashinyan dismissed such fears. "I have no concerns, as the 102nd Military Base, regardless of the laws in force in the Russian Federation, must operate within the framework of the legislation and jurisdiction of Armenia. There is no cause for concern," Pashinyan stated.
Earlier, it was announced that the Russian State Duma had passed, in its third and final reading, a law authorizing the use of the country's Armed Forces to protect Russian citizens arrested by foreign courts without Russia's participation, or whose jurisdiction is not based on an international treaty to which the Russian Federation is a party or a UN Security Council resolution.
