ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities intend to temporarily lift the restriction, in effect since 2008, under which citizens of certain countries could only obtain entry visas to Armenia through diplomatic missions and consulates upon invitation.
The rationale for the draft government decision, adopted on May 14, notes that this measure is aimed at facilitating entry into the country for representatives of countries participating in COP-17. Once the document comes into force, COP-17 participants from certain countries will also be able to obtain entry visas through the E-VISA system. The document was prepared by the Armenian Ministries of Environment and Foreign Affairs jointly with the National Security Service. The changes are aimed at simplifying the entry of foreign citizens to participate in the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity. The COP-17 conference will be held in Yerevan from 18 to 30 October 2026.
