ArmInfo. The opening of the borders of Syunik region carries certain risks, as stated by Narek Karapetyan, a board member of the Strong Armenia party, in an interview with Syunyats Yerkir TV.
Recalling RA President Vahagn Khachaturyan's statement regarding the opening of Syunik's borders, Narek Karapetyan pointed out that as after years of struggle by the Armenian people, the borders of this region were closed, due to clear evidence of the neighboring state's encroachment on Armenia's sovereign territory, not directly, but through the resettlement of some Azerbaijanis in the region. For example, by using the opportunity to resettle in the village of Nrnadzor in the Meghri region, which is called Nyuvedi in Azerbaijan, the villages of Sisian, Baku will attempt to influence the internal life of Armenia. "Our country's history shows that, despite all the challenges, we were able to maintain a united Armenian state, which had great potential for development. This struggle was aimed at keeping the gates of Syunik closed. Our party leader, Samvel Karapetyan, has emphasized many times that if you don't open the gates, you won't face even greater problems in 20-30 years. If we open these gates, the third generation of Aliyevs will continue to raise the issue of territorial claims against our homeland," the politician said, adding that Armenia is ready to trade with Azerbaijan, but Armenia is not prepared to make unilateral concessions to satisfy all of official Baku's demands and ambitions.
Karapetyan emphasized that as Armenia complies with these demands, they will increase. "We must limit ourselves to the current situation and sign a peace treaty, the implementation of which will be guaranteed by regional states. The country must become stronger, including having more than one guarantor of its security. The current authorities believe that it is necessary to submit to demands, which will never bring peace to our people," Narek Karapetyan, said, adding that the upcoming elections will be extremely important for Armenia's development in the next 30-40 years. It is possible that in five years Armenia will have new leaders, but the current stage is fateful for the people of Armenia.
