ArmInfo. The Nagorno-Karabakh issue was a "trap" for Armenia, as stated by Alen Simonyan, Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, in an interview with Deutsche Welle.
"It's a trap, we've declared this more than once. It's a trap for an independent Armenia. It's a trap set to ensure that Armenia would never be independent and simultaneously, Azerbaijan wouldn't be independent either, but rather kept under control through this leverage. I believe, and we've declared: the chapter of Nagorno-Karabakh movement is closed, and we must never return to this issue again. And this is the only correct path," Simonyan said in response to a question about the issue. He also added that the search for historical Armenia almost led to the loss of the "real Armenia." . Thus, Simonyan echoed the anti-Artsakh theses previously voiced by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
