ArmInfo.International relations will be used to secure the return of Armenia's occupied territories and Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku prisons, as stated by Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the Strong Armenia party, at a press conference in Yerevan.
According to the party leader, they intend to be demanding in these matters. As Karapetyan pointed out, more than 200 square kilometers of Armenian territory are currently under Azerbaijan's control. " That is roughly the equivalent of 100 Monacos. It seems as though the people of Armenia have already forgotten this. But we will not forget. We intend to resolve these matters through negotiations. I am more than confident that we will succeed in using our international ties to return Armenia's occupied territories. And through those same connections, we will achieve the return of our compatriots held in Baku prisons," Karapetyan assured.
The party leader identified the return of the Artsakh population as the most difficult issue. He assured that they do not intend to close this chapter and will do everything to ensure the safe return of the Artsakh population. "To this end, as I have already said, we intend to maintain good relations with the superpowers and international organizations. Only in this way can we achieve this goal," the party leader asserted.
Karapetyan clarified that given the current situation, he does not see any prospects for a return to Artsakh in the coming years. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has done everything to ensure we do not have this opportunity today. Therefore, our first priority is to ensure a dignified life for the people of Artsakh within Armenia, while simultaneously doing everything to create opportunities for a safe return to Artsakh by leveraging our international capabilities. I repeat this is the most difficult issue facing our nation today. I cannot say this will be resolved quickly, but I assure you we will do everything to ensure it happens," Karapetyan concluded.
