President of Latvia to pay official visit to Armenia

ArmInfo.  Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics arrived in Armenia on an official visit. The official welcoming ceremony took place on May 7 at the residence of the  Armenian President.

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan welcomed his counterpart. A  military orchestra played the national anthems of Armenia and Latvia.  The presidents then introduced the official delegations of the two  countries.

The Latvian President also attended the plenary session of the  National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, which was perceived by  opposition representatives as direct and open support for the  country's current authorities. "Welcome to Armenia, Mr. President.  But this is open support for the authorities ahead of the elections,"  said Artsvik Minasyan, secretary of the opposition "Armenia" faction.  He recalled that RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who constantly  claims external interference in the elections, is himself resorting  to the direct support of European politicians to maintain his own  power.
