ArmInfo. Police officers will be able to take advantage of government mortgage lending programs as part of social support measures approved by the RA government. The RA National Assembly will discuss the first reading of the government-proposed amendments to the Law "On Police" at its plenary session on May 6.
As Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Mkrtchyan noted in his speech, the legislative initiative will allow police officers to purchase apartments or houses, as well as build housing, using affordable and preferential mortgages. The initiative aims to increase the attractiveness of police service, provide additional social guarantees, and significantly reduce the financial burden on officers. The new provisions will apply to all police officers.
Within the scope of its statutory authority, the government will establish the procedures and conditions for participation in the program, including prioritization based on duty station, social status, and other factors.
Currently, to avoid conflicts of interest and corruption risks, assignments to territorial police units are conducted in a manner that requires officers to serve away from their place of residence, which creates housing issues. Therefore, it has become necessary to provide them with appropriate conditions, including houses or apartments purchased through the mortgage program.
