ArmInfo. Democracy for us is not a coincidence, but a strategy consciously adopted by the people of the Republic of Armenia. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan  stated this on May 5 during an extended meeting with European Council  President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von  der Leyen on the sidelines of the first Armenia-EU Summit.

Pashinyan assessed that reforms that could have been implemented  solely through political will have already been implemented. Further  deepening them, he noted, requires additional efforts and  contributions - both legislative and institutional, as well as expert  level. In this context, he emphasized the importance of cooperation  with the EU. "I can already express my gratitude to our EU partners  for their assistance in this area - from strengthening guarantees for  the independence of the judiciary to countering hybrid challenges,"  the Prime Minister stated.

He noted that the problems of disinformation and hate speech on  social media and in the media are characteristic not only of Armenia,  but also of many European countries. In this regard, Pashinyan  expressed hope for the EU's support - both in terms of sharing  experiences and implementing relevant tools.

The Prime Minister also emphasized that a significant and substantive  agenda has been developed between Armenia and the EU, requiring  detailed discussion at the summit and extensive work. He called the  event itself a historic event.

"During the meeting in a restricted format, we had the opportunity to  discuss a wide range of issues. I am pleased to note that a common  position and understanding have been formed on many areas of our  agenda.  This creates the necessary atmosphere for focusing on the  implementation of the agenda's objectives," he said.
