ArmInfo. The first-ever Armenia-EU summit is a clear signal of how the European Union wishes to build relations with Armenia. This was stated by European Council President Antonio Costa on May 5 in Yerevan at the first-ever Armenia-EU summit in an expanded format.
"Armenia has entered a new era of peace, consolidation of the democratic regime, and this truly creates a favorable atmosphere for the development of our bilateral relations. The strategic agenda for the Armenia- EU partnership was adopted in December 2025, and since then we have been working to strengthen it," Costa said.
According to him, Yerevan and Brussels are also working together in the areas of defense and security, as well as within the European peace framework, to combat hybrid threats. He further recalled that last April, a European Partnership mission was approved to strengthen Armenia's democratic resilience.
"It is important for us to protect the democratic freedom of the Armenian people to choose their own destiny. You can count on us. Armenia plays a pivotal role in our relations with the South Caucasus, and also connects Europe through the South Caucasus to the Caspian Sea and Central Asia. This is the history of our region and the future," Costa said.
