ArmInfo. Artur Avanesyan (Kandaz), legendary Artsakh intelligence officer, holder of the Second Degree "Battle Cross" Order, and head of the "Strong Armenia" security team, arrested on charges of electoral bribery, has ended the hunger strike he began on April 29, as reported by lawyer Armen Feroyan.
According to Armenian media, citing his lawyer, Avanesyan ended his hunger strike following a direct appeal from the leader of the "Strong Armenia" party, Samvel Karapetyan.
On April 27, the Anti-Corruption Committee announced that Avanesyan and three others had been detained in connection with an election bribery case. Avanesyan was placed in custody for two months following a court ruling. According to the committee's statement, the case was initiated based on wiretaps of Avanesyan. This is not the first time opposition figures have been detained due to wiretaps. There is no information yet on whether these arrests were carried out lawfully, with court approval, or in violation of the law.
