ArmInfo. The world must recognize the Armenian Genocide of 1915, condemn ethnic cleansing in Artsakh, and demand the immediate release of Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku, as noted in a statement issued by the Free Armenian Hostages initiative on the occasion of the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
The statement reads as follows: "Today marks 111 years since the Ottoman Empire began the Armenian Genocide, systematically killing an estimated 1.5 million Armenians through massacres and death marches. This legacy of denial and erasure continued in 2023, when Azerbaijan imposed a nine-month blockade on Artsakh, followed by a military assault that ethnically cleansed over 120,000 indigenous Armenians from their homes. Villages were emptied, churches desecrated, and families fled with nothing. Azerbaijan still holds 19 Armenian hostages, subjecting them to sham trials, torture, and unlawful detention. Demand your government recognize the 1915 Genocide, condemn the Artsakh ethnic cleansing, and press for the immediate release of all Armenian hostages. Silence enables repetition."
