Expert: Normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani and Armenian-Turkish  relations is stagnating

ArmInfo. The normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani and Armenian-Turkish relations is stagnating. Political scientist and American studies expert Suren Sargsyan shares  this view.

In support of his assertions, the expert, on his Facebook page,  pointed to both statements by Armenian officials and general  developments. "The Armenian authorities have effectively linked the  normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations exclusively to the  implementation of the TRIPP project, while Turkey, in turn, ties the  normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations to the normalization of  Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. As a result, a chain of three  interrelated processes has emerged: the implementation of the TRIPP  project, the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani and  Armenian-Turkish relations, which have become a single,  interdependent package. Under these circumstances, the failure of any  one of them immediately impacts the others," Suren Sargsyan  emphasized.

He added that there is currently no significant progress towards  TRIPP, which also implies a slowdown in other processes. The  project's prospects for implementation also partially depend on  Iranian-American relations.

"During the last war, Iran repeatedly demonstrated its ability to  strike not only at the US military but also at economic initiatives  in the region, such as TRIPP. Therefore, the project's implementation  now depends not only on the US, but also on Iran. As for Azerbaijan,  if TRIPP is not implemented for various reasons, Baku will naturally  follow its 'Zangezur Corridor.' Regardless of whether it's called  TRIPP or the 'Zangezur Corridor,' its strategic goal will remain the  same, but the moderator will be different. Thus, the following logic  emerges: without TRIPP, it's difficult to imagine progress in the  Armenian-Azerbaijani peace and the normalization of Armenian-Turkish  relations. And if the project is not implemented, the likelihood of  alternative, riskier scenarios increases.

The lack of alternatives is yet another failure in the Armenian  authorities' foreign policy calculations," the Americanist noted.

As a reminder, the declaration establishing the "Trump Route" (TRIPP)  was signed by the leaders of Armenia, the United States, and  Azerbaijan on August 8, 2025, during a meeting at the White House.  This transport corridor will pass through Armenia's Syunik Province.  Although Armenia will retain sovereignty over its territory, the  route will be managed by a private American company.
