ArmInfo.Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan chaired a high- level meeting today, April 23, to coordinate the organization of the "Tour of Armenia," an international professional cycling tournament scheduled to take place from September 10 to 13, 2026.
The Government Press Service reported that the meeting included members of the inter-agency working group, Italian Ambassador to Armenia Alessandro Ferranti, and Michele Napoli, Director of RCS Consulting—the firm providing expert guidance for the event's organization, and other officials.
RCS Consulting Director Napoli Michele provided detailed information on the organizational work. It was noted that approximately 20 teams of experienced cyclists are planned to participate in the multi-day cycling race, with each team comprised of six members. According to Michele Napoli, the multi-day race is designed to span across Yerevan and the provinces of Gegharkunik, Tavush, Lori, and Aragatsotn. Specific routes are currently undergoing technical feasibility checks.
It was reported that several meetings were held with responsible agencies regarding the organization of the international cycling race, trips to the relevant regions were organized, routes, and other organizational matters were discussed. The meeting discussed issues related to road infrastructure readiness, logistics, and strategies to showcase Armenia's diverse landscapes to an international audience during the broadcast of the race.
The importance of the tournament for the development of tourism in Armenia, particularly cycling, was emphasized, and it was noted that the tournament will be held annually. Summing up the discussions, Nikol Pashinyan noted: "The tournament has already been included in the international calendar and approved. Of course, our international partners already have specific route proposals, which will also undergo a technical review for feasibility, and any necessary adjustments will be made. Our goal is to make the tournament an annual event, and, of course, from this perspective, it will become a catalyst for the development of cycling in Armenia, as it is rapidly gaining momentum internationally and attracting much attention, especially now, when environmental issues are in the spotlight, and cycling is one of the ways we can help, including by overcoming traffic congestion."
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the event, emphasizing that the further development of this wonderful idea is also dependent on the quality of its organization and implementation. The head of state also noted with satisfaction that a decision has already been made to host the European Youth Cycling Championships in Armenia in 2029, which means that Armenia is entering a period that could play a very important role in the development of cycling, a healthy lifestyle, and tourism.
