ArmInfo. The upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia are an exceptional opportunity for the people to oust the "former" from political life, as stated by the RA Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, to reporters on April 23.
During a briefing, he sharply criticized the country's former leaders. According to Pashinyan, the first president of the Republic of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, is a true representative of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun party. In any case, Pashinyan continued, the political force led by Ter-Petrosyan, the Armenian National Congress, has no chance in these elections. Certain forces seek a " revanchist" comeback by restoring the coalition consisting of the ARF, the Prosperous Armenia Party, and the Republican Party of Armenia. Against this backdrop, the statement by Serzh Sargsyan, the third president of the Republic of Armenia and leader of the Republican Party of Armenia, about not participating in the electoral process is a "false thesis". In the previous elections, Sargsyan participated as part of the "With Honor" bloc, and in these elections, as part of the "Strong Armenia" bloc of parties. He added that Sargsyan has publicly expressed his support for Strong Armenia and the entire leadership of the Republican Party of Armenia, including deputy head Ashotyan, has participated in that political party's rallies.
Pashinyan emphasized that the "three-headed war party" justifies its status every day. He emphasized that one of these parties is trying to distance itself from such rhetoric, but is unable to do given its proportional candidate list. "These people talk about the return of Karabakh every day. Yet, not a single son of those who are "tearing their shirts" off for Karabakh ever served there or participated in any military action," Pashinyan assured. He reiterated that the Karabakh movement had led Armenia into a "dead end" from which there was no escape, and that the entire period since 1994 was merely a pretext for delaying the active phase of the war, which never truly ended but continued with varying intensity.
He stated that the second and third presidents of Armenia had "brazenly lied" about the Karabakh movement serving Armenia and the Armenian people. "It served those who want Armenia to never emerge from of its "victim image". I am proud that our country is getting out of this trap, yes, at the cost of sacrifice, but it is getting out," Nikol Pashinyan concluded.
