ArmInfo. The legal order established in Armenia derives from citizens, their decisions, and their consent. This was stated by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on his Facebook page, presenting the latest provisions of the Civil Contract party's election program.
According to him, this is precisely the focus of the seventh section of the program, which concerns internal security and is directly linked to legitimacy. Legitimacy is the most important and fundamental factor in ensuring internal security. "The source of internal legitimacy is the people and their will to have a state. This will must be expressed in the indisputable legitimacy of internal relations and institutions. It is impossible to ensure rights and freedoms without restrictions. These restrictions are expressed in the form of laws, decisions of the government and other bodies, and judicial decisions," the Prime Minister emphasized.
Another source of legitimacy is the Constitution. Previously, referendum results in Armenia have been widely questioned, resulting in a lack of fairness and trust. The way to overcome this situation is to adopt a new Constitution through the expression of the will of the people, which will give full legitimacy to the established legal order in the country. The new Constitution must introduce the institution of jury trials as a manifestation of the people's connection with the justice system.
Pashinyan assured that if he wins the elections, reforms in the judicial system and the development of democratic institutions will continue.
As a reminder, parliamentary elections in the country will be held on June 7. According to the schedule, the nomination of political forces began on April 13. Registration closes on May 3, the election campaign starts on May 8 and ends two days before the election, on June 5.
