ArmInfo. The actions of the current rulers will not prevent a legal change of power, but they will leave a deep and painful scar on the national legal and political culture, as stated by Gevorg Danielyan, Doctor of Law, Professor, and former Minister of Justice of Armenia, in an interview with Golos Armenii.
According to him, the ruling political force itself is committing obvious, widespread election violations while squandering public funds. However, they have targeted a political force with an unprecedentedly high approval ratings to achieve several own goals: diverting public attention from the authorities widespread violations, paving the way for reprisals against a powerful political force, discrediting the image of opposition political forces and individuals, and sowing an atmosphere of fear. All these actions are intended to incite apathy among citizens and discourage from participating in the elections. "Let me state immediately: I am convinced that these actions will not prevent a legal change of power, but they will leave a deep and painful scar on the national legal and political culture. The main weapon of these authorities is the apathy of our society. Low voter turnout will give them the opportunity to unimpededly use administrative resources and secure their desired results. Therefore, I urge our citizens to take just a few minutes and participate in the elections. This is less an election and more a referendum on the very existence of our state," the professor noted.
He further explained that while a clause prohibiting charitable activities by parties after the announcement of elections was added to Article 19 of the Electoral Code, the real issue lies elsewhere. The problem, he claims, is the establishment of total control over opposition supporters and the pursuit of criminal prosecution through illegal methods. He noted that fragmentary recordings are being published in violation of the presumption of innocence and the secrecy of pre-trial proceedings, solely for the purpose of defamation. Furthermore, it remains unclear whether these wiretaps were conducted before or after the official start of the election period.
Against this backdrop, as Danielyan noted, the European Union elite, openly pandering to all demands of the current Armenian government, will take any steps necessary to implement the "Moldova scenario." "However, these attempts are doomed to failure, as the necessary preconditions for this scenario to materialize don't exist here. The Armenian people have long felt an open antipathy toward the ruling power for its lack of backbone and incompetence. If we assess the situation adequately, it is precisely the activities of the Civil Contract party that should be banned. Let me give just one example: the government's interference in the governance of the Armenian Apostolic Church is seriously linked to the overthrow of the constitutional order," the former minister stated.
