
ArmInfo. The final meeting of the Interministerial Committee of the Armenia-Council of Europe Action Plan for 2023-2026 was held in Yerevan. The event was co-chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisogomonyan and Director of Programme Coordination of the Council of Europe, Claus Neukirch.
As reported to ArmInfo by the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the meeting was followed by a regular meeting of the "Partnership for Good Governance" program, a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union, for the period 2023-2027 in Armenia.
In his speech, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisogomonyan praised the cooperation established between Armenia and the Council of Europe, emphasizing the role of the Action Plan in strengthening democracy, protecting human rights, and upholding the rule of law in Armenia.
During the meetings, the implementation of the Armenia-Council of Europe Action Plan for 2023-2026 was summarized, and progress in implementing the Partnership for Good Governance in Armenia for 2023- 2027 and upcoming projects was discussed.
Positive results were noted in areas such as justice, the fight against corruption and economic crime, the prevention of violence against women, the fight against discrimination, biomedicine, improving healthcare in correctional facilities, developing the probation system, developing local self-government, and a number of other areas. Following the Action Plan's summary, participants exchanged views on the development of the Armenia-Council of Europe Action Plan for 2027-2030, taking into account the needs and priorities expressed by the relevant agencies, the democratic reform program initiated by the Armenian government, and the conclusions and recommendations of the relevant Council of Europe bodies.
In this context, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia emphasized the importance of protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms, promoting inclusiveness, encouraging good conduct and good governance, strengthening democratic institutions, and ensuring sustainability in the development of the next Action Plan. Particular attention was paid to the importance of strengthening the Republic of Armenia's expert capacity.
Representatives of several government agencies of the Republic of Armenia, as well as representatives of civil society, participated in the event.
