ArmInfo. The merger with Samvel Karapetyan's "Strong Armenia" party failed because at some point they changed their strategy for participating in the parliamentary elections. Levon Zurabyan, Deputy Chairman of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) and the party's prime ministerial candidate, made this statement at a press conference in Yerevan.
According to him, even before the emergence of Karapetyan's party, the ANC had planned to join forces with other political forces to challenge (the current government - ed.) and present itself to the Armenian people as the main alternative to the rule of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. "When Samvel Karapetyan's party emerged, we saw that their bid for the elections was quite strong, and it became clear to us that we must unite with them. We believe that if this bloc were successful, it would trigger a revolutionary upsurge and help people who had not yet decided who to vote for consolidate around a new force," Zurabyan clarified.
The politician stated that serious negotiations were held with Karapetyan's political force, and the parties were even close to forming a bloc, but at some point the situation changed. He suggested that this occurred because the forces had different approaches to achieving electoral success. "At some point, their strategy changed. Now it is based more on the use of electoral technologies. Even though our strategies for achieving the same goal do not coincide, we respect their choice and wish them success," Zurabyan concluded.
