ArmInfo. Armenia is approaching decisive parliamentary elections, the significance of which is difficult to overestimate. Former RA Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan wrote about this on his Facebook page.
According to him, a feeling of fatigue, disappointment, and discontent reigns throughout the country, the result of eight years of accumulated national upheaval, losses, various failures, and uncertainty about the future. At the same time, these elections are taking place in a new political environment, where a number of serious and credible opposition political blocs have already formed, distinguished by their programs, experience, and governing ability. Individually or together, these blocs could secure a clear parliamentary majority. In any case, according to the former Foreign Minister, in this reality, the goal of the opposition and Armenian society should be not only to prevent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan from achieving a simple majority, but also to prevent his Civil Contract party from even surpassing the minimum threshold for entering parliament.
"Ultimately, these elections are the embodiment of the real sentiments of Armenian society into a clear political outcome. The conditions for this are present: a dissatisfied electorate, a disappointed, discouraged, and humiliated society, credible and promising opposition programs for peace and development, and a general recognition of the unacceptability of the current course. If the collective opposition and voters act clearly and purposefully, the result could be not just a change of power, but a radical and complete political restructuring," Vardan Oskanyan emphasized. He added that there truly is a wonderful opportunity not only to change the government but also to once and for all close and erase from memory a period considered the most difficult and humiliating for the country, and to usher in a new era based on dignity, responsibility, competence, and national revival.
As a reminder, parliamentary elections will be held in the country on June 7.
