ArmInfo. The Great Patriotic War was a harsh test for all the peoples of the USSR, including the Armenian, especially for Western Armenians, who miraculously escaped from complete destruction during the Genocide in Ottoman Turkey and scattered around the world, Deputy Director of the Institute of History of the NAS of RA, Doctor of Historical Sciences Karen Khachatryan said at the conference "Memory and Actual Sound of the Great Victory: 74th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War ".
"The Armenians still had a fresh historical memory of what the union of Kaiser Germany and Ottoman Turkey led to during the First World War," he said, stressing that thanks to the Great Victory, the Armenian people had escaped from the new threat of final eradication after the Genocide. He noted that the victory in the Great Patriotic War was obtained by all the peoples and nations of the Soviet Union, was strong evidence of their fighting brotherhood and commonwealth. "And attempts to dispute and diminish the decisive role of the peoples of the USSR in the victory over fascism are nothing else than a crude falsification of history. Of course, the second front played an important role in the complete defeat of Nazi Germany and its allies, but if for the Western allies and the United States the question of a second front to a greater degree was a question of the implementation of their strategic goals, mainly related to the post-war world order, then for the USSR it was of critical importance, it was associated with the hope to bring the enemy's defeat at least for some time and thereby save the lives of millions of Soviet people, "said the expert, recalling that the second front was open only when the Allies realized that the USSR alone was capable of defeating Germany. At the same time, he noted that if the reasons that prompted Western countries to revise history are, to a certain extent, explicable, then the aspirations of some post-Soviet countries to distort their own victory history are incomprehensible. "We must oppose this in every way, we will not allow revision and rewriting of history. We are sure that we will be able to win this ideological war imposed on us if we are together and united, if we maintain and multiply friendly ties between our countries and peoples, otherwise - losses are inevitable, "he concluded. It should be noted that the conference was organized by the research and analytical public organization "Integration and Development", the Association of Veterans of the Republic of Armenia and the Eurasian Expert Club.
