On April 24 Armenian and Russian presidents met in Yerevan.
KREMLIN.RU reports that during the meeting Putin emphasized the special allied character of the Armenian-Russian relations. The Armenian president expressed his gratitude to Putin for attending the commemorative events dedicated to the centennial of the Armenian Genocide.
"You have mentioned in your statement that Russia recognized the Armenian Genocide 100 years ago, along with the French and British governments the Russian state acknowledged that the Ottoman Empire's actions against the Armenian nations had been a crime against humanity and that crime should be punished. This speaks for the continuity in the Russian policy. I am truly glad and grateful to you for your arrival. Once again I welcome you to Armenia", said Sargsyan.
In his turn, Putin emphasized the special character of the Armenian-Russian relations. "This has deep historical roots. We have always been, are and will be close allies. The relations between our countries are developing. The economic relations also have an upward trend. Despite all the hardships of the past year, our turnover was increasing. It is important to maintain this trend", he said.
