The latest events in Turkey have vividly demonstrated that the assessments that President Erdogan does not have enough resources to retain power were rather exaggerated; Director of Noravank Foundation Gagik Harutyunyan has expressed this opinion to ArmInfo.
According to him the recent events, as well as successful struggle against Kurd rebels and his political flexibility testify to this as Erdogan regularly changes his stands on this or that issue. "However, this does not mean that everything is good in Turkey. Ankara has a lot of non-solved domestic problems as well as it constantly competes for leadership in the region. There are also non-solved problems with the neighbours. Besides, army traditionally plays significant role and has made a lot of attempts of coups with the support from the gullemists in the US", Harutyunyan noted.
"In terms of Armenian interests the complex situation in Turkey is possibly beneficial for us. However, at the background of the recent events Ankara may harden its position on the issues important for Armenia, particularly Karabakh conflict and relations with Azerbaijan. Unpleasant surprises are quite possible related to both issues", the expert summarized.
