 Despite the statements of the opponents of constitutional reforms, Vice Speaker of Armenian Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov said at a press conference that on December 7 the Armenian society will not wake up in a new Armenia.   

He said that the stand on the reforms should not become a dividing line in the society. "These reforms are not a matter of life and death for the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA). They will simply bring to stability and even power shift without any shocks," he said, noting that if the citizens vote against the reforms, it will not mean the RPA's failure.

"The reforms are not a dividing line between the opposition and the authorities," he stressed, adding that at the moment the RPA is the most accomplished and strongest political force in Armenia. "There is no way to shift the power other than elections. So, the forces wishing to rule the country should take part in the elections and win," said Sharmazanov. 
He urged the organizers of the Dec 1 rally in Liberty Square to abstain from any actions running counter to the law and not to create artificial tension. "We will prevent such phenomena under the current complicated geopolitical conditions. We are not going to enter the same river twice," he said, clarifying that he meant the March 1, 2008 developments.  

Earlier, Zhirayr Sefilyan, the head of the New Armenia campaign headquarters, said that the Front will start termless round-the-clock protest actions in Liberty Square on December 1, at 6 pm. He pointed out that the Front has already informed the Municipality of its intention to put up tents in Liberty square. Later the police issued a statement saying that it will take measures to prevent illegal actions even by coercive methods. The police also urged the rally organizers to observe all the items of the Municipality's letter.
