Worsening of Turkey relations with the West and the escalation of the Kurdish issue, the crisis in the Azerbaijani economy and the internal problems of the ethnic minorities, the lifting of Western sanctions against Iran and the expansion of investment opportunities of that country: is an incomplete list of all of the factors that could make use of the Armenian diplomacy, if desired. This was said by Ara Papian, the head of the analytical center "Modus Vivendi", at a meeting with journalists, considering the regional development from the point of view of the interests of Armenia.
The decline in oil prices led to the collapse of not only of the Azerbaijani economy but the political situation in the country, the expert said. According to him, the Azerbaijani leaders are well aware that this is the last chance to resolve the Karabakh conflict by military means. "At the same time, there is also increasing resentment of ethnic groups - Talyshis, Tats, Yezidis within the country, so it is not so simple, "- said the expert.
Turkey is more and more immersed in its internal affairs, thus the degree of its involvement in the developments of the South Caucasus, particularly in Karabakh issue, gradually decreases, said Ara Papyan. According to him, the situation is heating up and will reach its peak during the upcoming parliamentary elections in November. "Relations with the West are also in decline, as it became obvious for the West that the so-called fight against IS is only a phantom behind which Turkey is trying to resolve long-standing conflicts with national minorities and Christians" - said Papian.
From the point of view of the interests of Armenia, the favorable conditions are created towards Iran as well, but we are not ready or have no resources to implement our own policies, said the head of the analytical center "Modus Vivendi". "Anyway, Russia and Iran are the competitors in the field of transportation of energy resources, and Armenia can not stay on the sidelines from these processes," - concluded Ara Papian.
