In case of desire and fulfillment of the necessary requirements, Armenia and Azerbaijan can claim visa liberalization with EU, Foreign Minister of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics told Kommersant newspaper.
The Latvian minister said they provide an opportunity for visa liberalization to all the EU partners. He sees some progress in Armenia and Azerbaijan in the field. Although legal documents have not been prepared yet, Rinkevics said, the EU weighs visa facilitation with Belarus. Therefore, he said, in case of desire and implementation of the necessary requirements, Armenia and Azerbaijan will be given such an opportunity, like in the case of Moldova, the diplomat said.
Rinkevics said EU will anyway try to avoid contradictions between Armenia's commitments to the EEU and the relations with the EU.
He said the EU is ready to start negotiations with Yerevan on a new agreement basing on the drafts dating back to 2013. The fundamental difference is that Armenia is now a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, Rinkevics said.
