"By resettling the Armenians of Lebanon, we could avoid the situation Syria faced", historian Gevorg Yazichian has told ArmInfo.
The historian expects Lebanon to shortly face the same situation as in Syria. So, it is necessary to take specific steps today to resettle the Armenian population of Lebanon in Armenia. The expert says that the Christians' future in the region is at stake, and the matter also concerns thousands of our compatriots. Consequently, it is necessary to prevent the Armenian Government from saying that it cannot evacuate Armenians from there, the historian says, recalling Armenian Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan's statement that "evacuation of the Syrian Armenians means to make those people a soft-skinned target for terrorists."
Yazichian says that people are generally evacuated from trouble spots quietly. He notes that Armenia could follow the example of Israel and evacuate the people without advertising it. He suggests evacuating the Armenian community by buses and even applying to Russia, the strategic partner of Armenia, for help.
