At the autumn session of PACE, Naira Zohrabyan, Head of the Prosperous Armenia Party Faction, urged Azerbaijan to remember the demolition of the Armenian khachkars (cross-stones) in Old Jugha.
Zohrabyan made her statement during the discussion of Azerbaijani MP Rafael Husseinov's report on freedom of religion in democratic societies. In particular, she stressed that before speaking of democracy the Azerbaijani MP should have apologized at PACE for Azerbaijan's aggressive policy and demolition of Armenian khachkars (cross-stones) in Old Jugha.
Afterwards, the Armenian delegation left the session hall as a mark of protest.
To recall, in 2005, over 2,000 khachkars in Old Jugha (Old Julfa) were demolished by Azerbaijani servicemen within 4 days.
